Anime North 2022 COVID-19 Policies

In order to ensure the safety of our attendees, staff, and other participants during the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, Anime North 2022 will have a mask requirement and a vaccine requirement.

The full Anime North 2022 COVID-19 policies are as follows.  (This policy is written respecting attendees, but applies to all participants at Anime North, subject only to necessary modifications based on participants' roles.)

Vaccine Requirement

All attendees must show proof they are fully vaccinated.  If an attendee is unable to provide proof of vaccination, they will not receive their badge and they will be unable to attend the convention.

"Fully vaccinated" means having completed a full series of accepted COVID-19 vaccines as defined by the type of and manufacturer of the specific vaccine you received, as defined by Health Canada, regardless of where the vaccine was administered.  For most vaccines, this means receiving two doses.  For further information, see the FULLY VACCINATED section of this web page: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/proof-covid-19-vaccination.

Proof of vaccination may be shown either on an electronic device or a legible paper copy, along with photo ID.  Children 16 years of age or under can provide non-photo ID instead of photo ID.  QR codes able to be scanned are preferred and will speed up your registration.  Attendees are responsible for supplying their own electronic device or paper copy with proof of vaccination.  If providing an electronic copy, we recommend you save a copy locally on your device prior to the convention.  Anime North cannot provide electronic devices, Wi-Fi, printers, or photocopiers.

A negative test result will not be accepted in place of proof of vaccination.

For Ontario residents, more information on how to download your proof of vaccination and/or QR code can be found here: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/get-proof.  Information for residents of other provinces/countries can be found on the websites of their local health authorities.

Individuals who cannot receive a COVID-19 vaccine for medical reasons must obtain a vaccine certificate for a medical exemption, which they must present instead of proof of vaccination.  The vaccine certificate for a medical exemption is granted by your local health unit; your doctor must apply for this certificate on your behalf.  For more information, contact your doctor or health provider.

Children under 5 years of age are exempt from the vaccine requirement.

Unvaccinated individuals who have already purchased a badge (including rollovers from previous years) may request a refund or rollover for their badge up until Wednesday, June 15th, 2022.

Attendees at the convention found not to be in compliance with the vaccine policy will have their badge revoked, without refund or compensation.

Mask Requirement

All attendees must wear an acceptable mask at all times in the convention settings listed below:
  1. Inside the Toronto Congress Centre's North and South Buildings
  2. In designated areas outside the Toronto Congress Centre where social distancing is not possible, including:
    1. Lines for registration or for admission to the building
    2. Inside the fenced-in area used for dances and other programming
  3. In function rooms at the Delta and Sheraton hotels where programming occurs
  4. In hallways, lobbies, and foyers at the Delta and Sheraton hotels
Anime North encourages attendees to wear masks around others even when it is not mandatory.

An "acceptable mask" means a disposable medical mask or respirator which covers the mouth, nose, and chin.  Cloth masks will not be considered acceptable on their own (but they may be worn over acceptable masks for decorative purposes).  Acceptable masks must not contain holes, mesh, valves, or similar openings that would inhibit their protective function.

"Cosplay" masks will generally not be acceptable on their own, e.g. Gundam head, stormtrooper helmet, mascot head, etc.  Attendees may be asked by Anime North staff to take off a "cosplay" mask so that it can be verified they are wearing an acceptable mask beneath.

Anime North reserves the right to determine whether any mask qualifies as an acceptable mask for attending the convention.

Children under 6 years of age will be exempt from the mask requirement.  Children between the ages of 2 and 5 are encouraged to wear a mask with supervision if they can tolerate it, put it on and take it off.  Children 6 or older must wear a mask.

Masks may not be removed to eat in the above-listed areas.  You must go outside to eat, or eat in the hotel restaurants or your hotel room.

Masks may be briefly removed to have a drink of water or other beverage, but must be immediately replaced after drinking.  Having a drink in your hand is not the same as drinking!

Failure to abide by the mask requirement may result in your badge being revoked, without refund or compensation.

Screening Questions

Attendees should not attend the convention if:

  1. They test positive for COVID-19 within 10 days prior to the convention
  2. They have a confirmed exposure to a COVID-19 case within 10 days prior to the convention
  3. They experience new or worsening COVID-19 symptoms such as cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, runny nose, fever, fatigue, headache, muscle or body ache, loss of taste or smell, abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, or other symptoms associated with COVID-19, without a known other cause
Attendees may be asked screening questions to confirm they do not fall into the above situations when they pick up their badge or vaccination wristband.

If you have already purchased a badge for Anime North 2022 and you fall into one of the above categories at the time of the convention, contact [email protected].

If during or immediately after the convention, you begin to experience the symptoms described above or test positive for COVID-19, please contact [email protected].

Other Risks

In order to ensure that our attendees can make informed choices about the risks of attending Anime North 2022, please be aware of the following:

Anime North 2022 will not be a socially distanced event and it is likely there will be crowded environments at the convention.  However, Anime North encourages social distancing whenever possible.

The Delta and Sheraton hotels are shared spaces that are not entirely within Anime North's control.  Anime North policies will not apply in the hotel restaurants and commercial establishments within the hotel, nor in private hotel rooms.  Some public areas of the hotels may include individuals not associated with Anime North (for example, other hotel guests) who may not be vaccinated or masked.

Behaviour

The following behaviours are not permitted at Anime North 2022 and may result in loss of membership badge without refund or compensation and/or removal from the premises:
  • Harassing another convention participant for wearing a mask or encouraging them to remove it when in one of the above-listed spaces where masks are required;
  • Failing to cooperate with Anime North 2022 staff who are enforcing convention policies, including COVID-19 policies; or
  • Removing someone else's mask.

Attendance Is At Participant's Own Risk

Although Anime North is taking steps to prevent the spread of COVID-19 at the convention, we cannot entirely eliminate that risk.  All attendees and other participants of Anime North 2022 agree they acknowledge this risk, and that they are attending the convention at their own risk with regard to COVID-19 infection.  Participants agree not to hold Anime North liable in the event that they contract COVID-19 or other illness during the convention.
