What is it?

Anime North Swap Meet is an event that gives attendees who are interested in Japanese street fashion to swap their items or acquire new ones. They will be able to sell, buy & trade their items. This event is an expansion of the Lolita Swap Meet which began at Anime North 2011.

What type of styles will be at this swap meet?

This event is strictly for Japanese street fashion styles. Styles such as lolita, visual kei, decora, gyaru, cyber, otome, mori girl, dolly kei, fairy kei & seifuku as well as all their substyles are all welcomed. We’d also love to extend a warm welcome to Steampunk fashion lovers as well.

What about this *insert another Japanese street style*?

Yes that is also acceptable. Are traditional Japanese clothing acceptable? -Off course. As long as they are not cosplay items

What type of items will be at this swap meet?

This event if for Japanese street fashion styles (and steampunk). You will be seeing clothing items like dresses, skirts, tops, bottoms, accessories and headwear. Some people will have brand names items from Japan but some people will have offbrand items as well. Other items you might see are listed below in the next question. Any other items that is acceptable? Kigurumis, sleepwear, slippers, small plushies, keychains, wallets, purses, handmade clothing, yukatas & kimonos.

What items aren’t acceptable?

Make up, home décor, toiletries & crafting supplies. As well any items like games, anime or manga. Those items belong in the Nominoichi.

What if the item is damaged?

If the item looks like it’s been overworn, torn, stained to the point where it is unwearable please consider leaving it out of the fashion swap. A good way to know this is asking yourself why you are selling this item. If the answer is because you wouldn’t wear it because of the damage chances are no one else will buy it either. If it has minor damage make sure you mark or tell the person who is buying it.

Can I sell my cosplay items?

No. The Nominoichi is the acceptable place to sell those items.

Can I swap my regular/normal day wear like tshirts & jeans?

No. This event is for a specific Japanese street styles and while you are more than welcome to join us for this event we are looking for specific styles. Items do not necessarily have to come from Japan to be sold/traded at the fashion swap but should fit into a category of street style.

Can I bring my clothing in a bag to swap with people?

Yes. But you will need to pay the seller fee of 5$ and need to sign up. Where is this taking place? -In the Terrace Room in the Double Tree. It’s where the maid café is held every year!

As a seller what should I consider bringing?

Bring all your items. It probably is a good idea to also bring a bit of cash to offer as change! Plastic bag might be a good idea so people can carry the items. Smartphone with paypal app might be a good idea but not mandatory.

Will there be deals?

OFF COURSE! Buying second hand items will more than likely acquire you some great deals! Especially if you are buying brand names items because you will be saving on shipping! And most of the time the item is at a cheaper price too!

How much money should I bring?

Depends on what you’re looking for. Some items can range to the 5$ range all the way up to the 200$ range and above. Brand name Japanese item aren’t cheap so if you’re looking for an Angelic Pretty dress consider bringing more than just 50$.

Seller

How will this work?

This event will run very informally. We have a limited number of tables & chairs. We will probably not have enough chairs and tables for everyone so please consider sharing space with others. We ask that seller consider bringing a blanket and setting up their items on the ground or on the ledges of the Terrace Room

Who can sell their items at the Swap Meet?

Anyone with an Anime North Badge (Day/Weekend or Pre-registered) is welcome to reserve a table. If you have a Dealers, Crafter’s Corner, or Exhibitor badge you are welcome to come in as a buyer. However, you are not allowed to participate as a seller and cannot enter the room before we open.

Can I reserve a table?

Unfortunately no. There will be around 10 tables and around 150 chairs. We will operate on the first come first served basis to be fair to everyone. If you do not get a table there are chairs and ledges to use are well. This is why we advise you to bring a blanket just in case. We also would appreciate sharing table space with other sellers. If we see you have room on your table we will ask you to share with others.

How much is the fee?

The fee to sell at the Swap Meet is 5$ per person.

Can I register as a group?

No. The 5$ is for each individual seller.

Will I get in trouble if one I register and fail to show?

We ask that you please make sure you are coming since space IS VERY LIMITED please do not register until you are sure you will be at the Terrace Room at 9am on Saturday morning.

Does signing up for the Swap Meet include an Anime North membership?

No. The Swap Meet is a part of the Anime North convention. To buy, or sell, you must purchase a membership separately.

Can my family, or friends, help me set up my table without buying a membership?

No. The Swap Meet is held inside the Anime North convention. For anyone to get into the room you must first show your badge.

Can I get a table if I am under 14 years old?

No. You must be at least 14 years of age by May 25th, 2012.

Will we be able to pay any other way beside cash?

Probably not. But another option is bringing your smartphone with paypal app on it. If both buyer and seller agree you can use that but use your own discretion.

To Register

Their will be a registration fee of 5$ to be paid for at the door. The 5$ will allow to sell your items inside the swap meet! You will not be let in until you pay that 5$. Please try to bring exact change ☺ Registration will open May 1st 2012 .
