New Style Sections at Anime North Fashion Show
Wednesday, 19 March 2014 12:10
The Anime North Fashion Show is pleased to announce the addition of two new street styles to its already growing fashion show. In addition to Gyaru, Kimono, Steampunk and Lolita, it is now adding Visual Kei and Kigurumi to its lineup.
Visual Kei first beginning as a music movement has crossed over to a fashion movement in the late 1990s. It is characterized by the use of striking make-up, unusual hair styles and elaborate costumes. While some sources state that the term Visual Kei refers to a music genre, or to a sub-genre of J-rock, other sources state that Visual Kei's unique clothing, make-up, fashion, and participation in the related sub-culture is equally as important as the sound of the music itself.
Kigurumi is used to describe full-body hooded pajamas styled after animals or cartoon characters. Sometimes called "disguise pajamas" or "onesies", the clothing is normally worn non-commercially as Japanese street fashion or as sleepwear, and is not intended to function as a performance costume. Kigurumis have made an appearance in other popular street styles such as Gyaru and Decora fashion.
The organizers are looking for models to represent these different styles. Models do need to have their own outfits prepared for the event.
They are also searching for volunteers to begin other style sections for the fashion show.
Designers are also welcome to participate in the designer showcase portion of their show, as well.
