Special Guest of Honor:
Momiji Award Winner for 2005: Carl Macek

Why Carl Macek?:

Few figures in the anime industry have stirred as much passionate debate as Carl Macek or been so dedicated to bringing Japanese animation to mainstream America. His best known work is the 1985 syndicated TV series "Robotech", created from 3 short Japanese TV series edited together with a new, unifying storyline created by Macek. The hugely successful show served as a gateway into the world of "anime" for a generation of North Americans. In 1989, he helped found one of the first North American companies to distribute anime titles in English, Streamline Pictures and brought critically acclaimed anime films including the groundbreaking "Akira" to the big screen. For these achievements and many others, Anime North will be presenting Mr. Macek with the Momiji Award for 2005.
